MNANGAGWA RETURN TO CHEERS

Zimbabwe's incoming leader Mnangagwa returns home to cheers The Associated Press Zimbabwe's incoming leader Emmerson Mnangagwa made a triumphant return Wednesday, telling cheering supporters that the country is witnessing "a new and unfolding democracy." "I appeal to all genuine people of Zimbabwe to come together," Mnangagwa said. "We are all Zimbabweans ... we need peace in our country and jobs, jobs, jobs." That was received enthusiastically by the crowd at the headquarters of the ruling ZANU-PF party, as Zimbabwe's economic crisis helped bring the downfall of Robert Mugabe, who resigned Tuesday after 37 years in power. Mnangagwa said he had been in constant contact with military leaders during the tumultuous two weeks between his firing by Mugabe and his return to lead Zimbabwe. 2017 SAID TO BE AMONG THREE HOTTEST BY U.N

NIGERIA: RTEAN INAUGURATES TASKFORCE AGAINST ERRING MOTORISTS

The Lagos State Branch of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has set up a taskforce to arrest members of the association driving against traffic in the state. The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Musa Muhammed, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday. He said the union had set up the taskforce to support the one put in place by the Lagos State Government to prevent commercial motorcyclists from operating on highways in the state. “We are law-abiding citizens, we obey traffic rules and regulations and we want total compliance with Lagos State traffic laws. “That is why we set up the taskforce to monitor and arrest any of our members or uniformed people, plying the expressway or disobeying traffic laws.” According to him, the association is ready to support the State Government on any policy that will step up and advance the transport sector. "JUNO" A SOLAR POWERED SPACECRAFT COMPLETES EIGHTH FLYBY OF JUPITER- NASA

Juno was launched on August 5, 2011, from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and arrived in Jupiter's orbit on July 4,2016. Washington:  NASA's solar-powered Juno spacecraft has successfully completed its eighth science flyby over Jupiter's mysterious cloud tops, the US space agency said today. The confirmation of the flyby, performed on October 24, was delayed by several days due to a solar conjunction at Jupiter, which had affected communications during the days prior to and after the flyby, NASA said.  Solar conjunction is the period when the path of communication between Earth and Jupiter comes into close proximity with the Sun. "All the science collected during the flyby was carried in Juno's memory until yesterday, when Jupiter came out of solar conjunction," said Juno project manager, Ed Hirst, from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.  Juno's next close flyby of Jupiter will occur on December 16. WhatsApp USERS EXPERIENCE OUTAGE WORLDWIDE

The smartphone app uses symbols to inform users of how the transmission of their message is doing. Worldwide, users are being shown the clock symbol after attempting to send a message, meaning that the message hasn't been sent to WhatsApp's servers. The website for the messaging app also appears to be down in what may be a domino effect. If a significant problem has affected WhatsApp's messaging servers causing the message issues, the resultant world-wide concern may have caused so much traffic to visit the website it has fallen down. The outage may be an embarrassment for WhatsApp's parent Facebook, which has this week announced  record revenues  from advertising. Facebook declined to comment when contacted. INDIA'S POWER PLANT EXPLOSION: 22 KILLED, DOZENS INJURED

The death toll from an explosion at a thermal power plant in northern   India   has climbed to 22, officials said Thursday. @TheGlobe reporters. At least 60 others have been injured when the explosion spewed hot ash over workers at the plant, said Sanjay Khatri, the area's top administrative officer. The death toll could rise as some dozen people have been hospitalized with severe burns after a pipe carrying ash from the burning coal exploded late Wednesday in the newly installed boiler at the power plant in Unchahar in Uttar Pradesh state. The 500-megawatt unit was operating on a trial basis. Khatri said the cause of the accident wasn't immediately known. It also wasn't clear how many workers were in the plant at the time. Witnesses described a massive explosion and thick smoke rising from the plant. A team of government rescue workers has been sent to the site.
